The Lounging Terrace

This project highlights a spacious vinyl liner lagoon style pool. The homeowner requested seating and entertaining areas both in and out of the pool. Consequently, we designed a sun ledge and numerous benches inside the pool, and large, open patio spaces outside the pool at different levels for lounging and entertaining. The existing topography and steep slope presented a significant challenge from both engineering and cost perspectives. We decided to place the pool on a central terrace that would alleviate the need for an expensive, unnecessary retaining wall on the lower side. We did, however, tie the design together with a central stone retaining wall that is approximately 20” tall. This wall helps to create the level terrace for the pool. The stone wall serves a structural purpose as well as to provide ample seating at a normal, comfortable seat level.
